BYZANTINE CROSS, 11th-15th Century AD.

By the fifth century the cross came to represent the crucifixion. Found in Balkans.

THE BYZANTINE EMPIRE

The ancient Roman Empire having been divided into two parts, an Eastern and a Western, the Eastern remained subject to successors of Constantine, whose capital was at Byzantium or Constantinople, now present day Istanbul, Turkey. The term Byzantine is therefore employed to designate this Eastern survival of the ancient Roman Empire which lasted 1000 years. [330 AD-1450 AD]

BYZANTINE OIL LAMP with CROSS 500 AD

Oil lamps were used for lighting and these smaller ones served as individual lights. They were usually discarded after the oil was used. The Byzantine Empire, Christian, lasted from 324 to about 1450 AD. Located now in modern day Turkey.

BOOK of prayers for CATHOLIC servicemen/women entitled WITH HEART AND HAND. Presented by The Department of the Army (1968).

This small guide is considerably different from the standard manual of Catholic prayers. It is a blend of the new and the old; of formal prayers, and that informal, wholly personal, lifting up of the heart to God. The Holy Mass is included, as well as other prayers including prayers for peace; prayers for forgiveness; prayer for civil and military authorities; etc. This is a soft cover prayer book; it measures 3 1/2" x 6 1/4"; 90 pages. Published by PAX Publishers; Peoria, Ill. It's in very nice condition. The binding is tight, all pages are intact, and there is no writing in it. Some minor wear to the cover $27.00, FINE

CHILD’S VICTORIAN-ERA, 1897, CATHOLIC PRAYER BOOK

Here is a beautiful Victorian-era catholic prayer book for children that is in good condition with only light wear to the celluloid covers. The gold gilt page edges are still intact and inner pages are in wonderful condition showing only minimal age discoloration, but no writing, brittleness, odors, etc. The title page reads "The Little Path To Heaven. Approved Prayers and Devotions. New York, Cincinnati, Chicago Benziger Brothers, Printers to the Holy Apostolic See. 1897". The celluloid covers have some wear (noticeable in photos) with abalone shell inlay and ornate cross and book latch. The book appears to be complete and measures 4" x 3". It has been stored well for many years, but is without mildew or musty odors, smoke, etc.

1934 POLISH ROMAN CATHOLIC PRAYER BOOK

Written entirely in the Polish language. It is entitled WIANUSZEK. Zbior calego rocznego Nabozenstwa dla chrzescijan katclikow. Published by R.C.B. Publishing Co.; NY. Made in Belgium. With a black leather cover featuring gold accents on the cover and spine, and gold edging on the pages. There is a small gold tone cross affixed to the inside cover of this prayer book. Imprimatur, J. Kard, Puszyn; 1910. With a Calendar of Church holy days beginning 1934, indicating this prayer book was published in 1934. This little prayer book measures 2 1/4" wide x 3 1/2" in height. 256 pages. It's in excellent condition. All pages are intact, there is no writing in the book $31.00, VERY FINE
